If I’d have known better when I first tasted Yumbii a few years ago at Alpharetta’s Food Truck Alley, I would have ordered the tacos.
Yumbii is a well-known Mexican-Asian fusion food truck here in Atlanta. You've probably heard of them. But back then, I was naive—I had no idea that I was in the presence of the king of taco trucks, so I ordered the fries.
Don't get me wrong—Yumbii's fries are amazing. They're crispy, golden, melt-in-your-mouth miracles, and their Sriracha cheese dip is so good it's drinkable.
But if you really want the full Yumbii experience, order the fish tacos. Who could say no to panko-crusted tilapia nestled in the warm embrace of a flour tortilla and topped with hoisin-tartar sauce, spicy Korean barbecue sauce and soy sesame salad? They're crispy, pillowy, spicy and fresh all at once, and I can't get enough of them. If you're in the mood to go all out, order two of these, with a side of fries and cheese sauce.
And guess what? Yumbii's opening up a brick-and-mortar taco shop in South Buckhead this fall. I have a lot of favorite taco spots in town, but this one might take second place (because nothing tops my beloved Taqueria Del Sol). Maybe I'll have to try a few more of their tacos before deciding, though—for research purposes.
